Organic Slippery Elm Bark
Slippery elm, or Ulmus rubra, is a tree native to the central and eastern United States and Ontario, Canada. Slippery elm bark is a demulcent. It as a somewhat sweet creamy taste. This means that it is capable of soothing the lining of the stomach and intestines and reducing irritation. Demulcents are sometimes referred to as mucoprotective agents so they protect the mucosa linings in the body. Recent studies have shown that slippery elm bark can help treat the symptoms associated with inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It also helps sore throat, vaginal dryness (especially after menopause), and heartburn. It’s also high in calcium. It can be very effective as a conditioner for the hair as well.
Brewing Instructions: Pour 8-12 oz. of boiling water over 1-2 tsp. of tea. Steep 5-10 minutes. Enjoy alone or sweeten to your taste.
